Texans to face Tom Brady and the New England Patriots

After a week 15 loss to the Patriots, the Houston Texans are looking to get even with Tom Brady’s team but will do so with smart play and confidence.

“Confidence,” FS Danieal Manning said. “I think when we went to Foxborough we just didn’t play with the type of swagger and energy and urgency that they played with. I think we were playing a lot of I-ball. By that, guys were feeling like, ‘I have to make this play. I have to do this. I have to do that.’

After winning his first post season game, the Texans Matt Schaub credits his team and thier trust in his abilities for the victory.

“It’s a team game, and I lean on my teammates,” Schaub said. “They had faith in me, trusted in me, and I tried to deliver the ball to the places it was supposed to go and let them make plays. It was a total team effort.”

The game kicks off at 4:30 Sunday.

Texans coaching staff to coach AFC in Pro Bowl

Gary Kubiak and the Texans’ coaching staff will coach the AFC at the 2012 Pro Bowl in Honolulu on Jan. 29. Mike McCarthy and the Green Bay Packers’ staff will coach the NFC.

The coaching staff of the highest-seeded team in both conferences to lose in the Divisional Round of the playoffs coaches the Pro Bowl each season.

“It’s not the next game we wanted to coach in,” Kubiak said Monday in an interview with FOX 26 Sports Houston (KRIV-TV). “We wanted to go to New England (for the AFC Championship Game).

“It’ll be exciting. We’ll have some of our players there. It’s a nice reward for the coaches and their wives to get away and relax a little bit. Hopefully, we’ll go there and won’t screw them up.”

The Texans (10-6 regular season) were the No. 3 seed in the AFC. They lost 20-13 on Sunday to the second-seeded Baltimore Ravens at MT Bank Stadium. The Packers (15-1) were the No. 1 seed in the NFC. They lost 37-20 to the sixth-seeded New York Giants at Lambeau Field.

Members of the Texans’ equipment and training staff also will be going to Hawaii to participate in the week.

The Texans currently have two Pro Bowlers, running back and cornerback . Nine others – outside linebacker , left tackle , inside linebacker , tight end , wide receiver , kick returner , center , defensive end and defensive end – are alternates who could play in the game if players selected ahead of them are unable to go.

HoustonTexans.com will be in Honolulu for Pro Bowl week covering the Texans’ coaching staff, players and Pro Bowl cheerleader representative Morgan.
