Wade Phillips loses first game as Interim Head Coach
For the second straight week, the Houston Texans struggled to play disciplined football totaling 114 yards in penalties for the second week in a row. Those negative yards were key in adding to the franchises 12 straight loss.
“That’s very disheartening,” Phillips said of the penalties. “Ten of them were in the first half which really hurt our defense. I don’t know what pass interference is anymore. I thought the guy made a heck of a play to get the ball on the one-yard line. At the end of the game, we jumped offsides. When you know its third-and-one, those kind of penalties, there’s no excuse for those.”
The game was viewed as the first of three for former Cowboys Head Coach Wade Phillips in which to impress team owners enough to keep him on as the head coach for next season. There are already rumors that put Penn State Head Coach Bill O’Brien in the running.
Things can go from bad to worse next weekend as the Texans face Peyton Manning and the #1 Team in the AFC, the Denver Broncos.
“They’re the number one offense in the league. Not just him (Manning), but their whole offense, their offensive line, their running backs. They move the ball better than anybody in the league. I think we’re fourth now in people moving the ball on us. It’s a big challenge.”
Tickets and great seats are still available for this AFC match up.
In what has turned out to be an emotional week for the Houston Texans, there was a spot of bright news in a sea of dark. Head Coach Gary Kubiak has been cleared and released from the hospital.
“I want to thank my family, the McNair family, the Texans organization, the doctors and staff at Houston Methodist Hospital and the entire Houston community for all the love and support we have received over the past three days. I’ve been through an ordeal and my focus now is to get back to good health. Doctors have told me I will make a full recovery but we have not determined when I will be cleared to return to the office. Again, thank you for the support and concern.”
The Texans also announced that free agent signee Ed Reed will not be starting this week. Reed, one of the most sought after free agents this summer, has only recorded 14 tackles, zero pass defenses and zero forced turnovers.
The Texans take on the Arizona Cardinals this weekend. Great seats and tickets are still available!
The Houston Texans used their bye week to heal some bodies and add to a depleted roster. Added this week were three running backs (Dennis Johnson, Deji Karim & Roy Graham) as well as two inside linebackers (Tavares Gooden & Jeff Tarpinian).
“Well, two of them (running backs) couldn’t play right now, so somebody’s got to play,” Head Coach Gary Kubiak said. “We better start getting these young guys ready and we’re concerned about special teams health really. We’re talking about three guys that should help us on special teams.”
The Colts are also coming off a bye week and the week prior beat the then undefeated Denver Broncos.
Great seats/tickets are still available for this Sunday Night shoot out!
